Welcome to Tai Chi & Quigong
Tai Chi is a martial art built on sequences of movement that promote health and wellbeing. As with all martial arts, the basics are taught first as a foundation, then built upon as the student progresses. The focus is on balance, coordination, relaxation and breathing.
Qigong (pronounced chi gong) is mainly the practice of individual exercises that can be practised independently for health, meditation and general wellbeing.
The focus is on posture, breathing, relaxation and gentle mindful movement. The exercises require less coordination than Tai Chi, as there is less movement involved, and are practised as a series of individualised exercises.
Together these create a mind and body practice that deepens with movement and improves over time.
Tai Chi Classes
Every Tai Chi class at The Zen Centre includes Qigong exercises. Qigong (pronounced chi gong) is the practice of individual exercises for health, meditation and general wellbeing, with a focus on posture, breathing, relaxation and gentle mindful movement.
The exercises require less coordination than Tai Chi, and they serve as a quiet foundation for the more complex sequences that follow. In this way, Qigong and Tai Chi sit naturally together — one preparing the body and breath for the other.

Low Impact, Lasting Benefit
Both practices are gentle on the body and suitable for most ages and abilities. Both involve slow, mindful movement. And both reduce stress and promote relaxation.
Over time, students often notice improvements in balance, posture and breathing, alongside a greater sense of calm that carries beyond the class itself.
Zen is not some fancy, special art of living. Our teaching is just to live, always in reality, in its exact sense.
